“A pity,” Movid said quietly, his voice only for Jesland to hear. “If she had but waited a day or two, we could have set up an incident. We should have something ready the next time. Something which will accidentally remove his entire party, save the one who fights valiantly to save him – yet sadly let his attention wander for a moment. The Watcher, unfortunately...”
Jesland gripped his staff. “I understand.”
“Good.” And Movid smiled widely.
Jesland’s gaze flickered toward the Lady Littela, close companion to the Dajournae’s woman. I will more vigilant in the marketplace than I should be.

Azygous watched the sun rise on the far horizon, a blood-red drop above a blue sea. A few scuddy clouds, their gold shimmer shot with crimson, hung about the far edge of the world, but otherwise the sky was a violet bowl studded with fading stars. So quiet and peaceful the world, with only the rising swells to show the storm striding toward the island.
An interesting day to come, he thought as he scratched his belly.
